Freeport Wood Bank provides free firewood to Maine families who heat their homes with wood but struggle to afford it. Serving Freeport and surrounding areas, we are a community-driven organization that brings together local volunteers and donors to ensure no family faces the winter without heat. Heating your home shouldn’t mean sacrificing other basic needs like groceries or gas, and we are here to help.
Help us pay for essential equipment and operating costs.
All donations are tax deductible.
We only accept hardwood.
We can pick up or help you deliver to our site.
We always need help!
Come alone, bring a friend, or sign up your work team. We have something for everyone.
All requests are processed by local Heating Assistance Programs, and Freeport Community Services manages the heating assistance programs for Freeport and Pownal. They provide Freeport Wood Bank with referrals.
If you are a resident of Freeport or Pownal and wish to request a wood delivery, click on "Request a Wood Delivery" or call Sarah Lundin @ (207) 865-3985 ext. 204.
If you are a resident of a neighboring community (e.g. Durham, New Gloucester, Gray, Lisbon), contact your local General Assistance Program coordinator for instructions on how to request firewood.
Freeport Wood Bank has been awarded a $10,000 federal grant to purchase startup materials to help meet the heating needs in our local community. Alliance for Green Heat is a non-profit chosen by the U.S. Forest Service in 2022 to administer a national program to support volunteer firewood banks.
